Rocky on Ice is a 3d generative animation of a penguin that the artist sponsors. Reminiscent of a screen saver, Rocky floats around the browser window on a patch of ice.

Rocky is a Northern Rockhopper Penguin who was rescued by SANCCOB in South Africa as a juvenile penguin ten years ago. She currently resides at Cape Town Center Home Pen with other African penguins and seabirds.

Sponsors support the care and conservation of seabirds impacted by climate change, overfishing, oiling, predation and human disturbance. While the goal is for the rescued seabirds to be rehabilitated and released back into the wild, I was informed that Rocky cannot be, "owing to the risk of her carrying a possible endemic back to her colony in the south Atlantic Ocean”.

The animation was created using p5.js.

Following the constraints of the a2p platform (beta), the animation was shared as a video file.
