FLARMINGOS v.3.0 is coming to the App Store soon! Tap on your screen to populate your surroundings with life-size augmented reality flamingos that perform courtship displays, flamingo "dance moves" researched by scientists. Snap photos, record videos, play flamingo-inspired music, adopt a flamingo, and experience shared reality between multiple app users in the same location!
As human population increases and wetlands are developed, flamingos suffer from disturbance to their habitats, resulting in difficulty breeding and foraging. The larger the colony size, the greater their chance at breeding successfully. FLARMINGOS are animated by motion capture of the artist performing like a flamingo and a dynamic flocking algorithm that influences their collective behavior. They are virtual stand-ins for wild flamingos adopted by the artist through Tour du Valat conservation initiative. In an act of interspecies solidarity, app users are invited to introduce flarmingo colonies to new habitats. The app features a button that takes you to Tour du Valat's flamingo adoption webpage where you can sponsor a wild flamingo and follow its movements online for a year!
